Busy weekend with the Fuji’s

So this weekend saw my Fuji X gear get a good hammering. Friday Night I was at The Brindley Arts centre in Runcorn for Jenny Colquitt’s EP launch gig. Jenny is an amazing singer song writer from my home town Widnes who I have got to know very well through my work at “The Studio” a small but great music venue again in Widnes where I am the in house photographer. Her new and first EP “The Quiet Kind” is now available on iTunes and Spotify and well worth getting a copy. I would describe Jenny as an Alanis Morissette type of singer song writer. Please check her out.

I used both my X-T1 and X-Pro1. The X-T1 with the 50-140 fixed and  the X-Pro 1 with the 18mm. Jenny played in the Studio at The Brindley which is a small intimate venue to play in. I was mostly shooting at 6400 iso (which to be honest is normal for me) both cameras were set on auto iso maxing out at 6400. Got some really nice shots and the gig was a great success. Jenny really does rock she even gave me a mention  before she sang her cover of “Song Bird” which is a song that means a lot to me as my sister who we sadly lost very suddenly loved Fleetwood Mac. Thanks Jenny for a great night.

Saturday Night I was doing my thing as in house photographer at “The Studio” (where in fact I will be holding my fujiholics Gig Photography workshop in June this year, details on the events page at fujiholics) Saturday was a gig with three great local bands “Dead beat Descendants”, “Pete Bentham and the Dinner Ladies” and “Stillia” and all in aid of The Whitechapel Homeless Centre which is a great cause.

I just used the X-T1 at The Studio as I was shooting with the 50-140 f2.8 mostly and with the battery grip fitted to the X-T1 it has a nicer balance to it. I like to get to The Studio early and catch the sound checks as this gives you a good idea of what the bands are like, although I had photographed two of the bands playing the one exception being “Stillia”. Camera set at 1/250th sec, Shutter Priority and again auto iso maxing out at 6400. On a side note it was nice of Sarah From Cambrian Photography to dive from North Wales to drop off 500 brand new t-shirts as a donation for the Whitechapel Centre. Thank you Sarah. Even Richard Waine came over and had a few soft drinks !! Nice to see you back Rich. Finished the night of with a few drinks with a lovely  friend and got home at 3am !!

Sunday saw me and my lovely Fuji’s with the guys from the “Halton Spartans” American Football team as the took on local rivals “Chester  Romans” away. Im very lucky to get pitch side for all the Spartans home games as they play at The Widnes Vikings Rugby League ground “The Select Security Stadium” Even though they have their own official photographer I asked could I photograph them last year during their first full season and they must have liked me as now I have a pass for all of their home games and was asked to do this away game for them as their official photographer cant make it. On the plus side they are getting a lot of local press coverage so my images will no doubt be used for this away game.

On the way to Chester it was pouring with rain. But as soon as I had parked the car up the rain stopped and we didn’t see a drop all the match. The result wasn’t a good one for the Spartans. In fact is was a bad one as they got beat 52-0. X-T1 again with a 1.4 converter (on loan from Jim Moody) Cheers Jim, fitted to my 50-140 f2.8. Auto iso again Continuous high focus and zone AF mode. Shutter Priority with the shutter set at 1/1000 sec was giving me an iso reading of between 1000 to 2500iso.

So my Fuji’s got a real good hammering this weekend and I loved every second of it even if I am a little tired as I write this.

Happy snapping
