Warren Millar Photography ~ The Exhibition

Just a quick little blog here to let you all know that I am pleased to say that in partnership with The Studio, Lacey Street Widnes, I will be having an exhibition of some of my gig photography and maybe a small selection of my other work.

I have been closely involved with The Studio since I covered a gig there for The Lewis Edge, Brightest Star Foundation and now proud to be their “Photographer in residence” and I cover all gigs I can get to. So when I was covering Ian Tiltons book signing there and Louise the project manager asked if I would like to have an exhibition there I jumped at the chance. I have worked with Louise in the past when I was asked to photograph St Marys Church centenary year celebrations which involved covering a whole year of events they were holding here on West Bank. Louise helped me out a lot on that project and I just love working with her and her team down at The Studio. It’s such a nice friendly place and keep a lookout for all future events going on there which I for one am excited about covering.

Anyway my exhibition will open on the 7th June 2013 at 7pm. All friends, old and new are invited to the opening night and I hope to see loads of you there that night but if you can’t make it the exhibition will be at The Studio until the 13th July 2013 so just pop along and take a look (if you are doing that give me a shout and I’ll try and get there too)

I’m really excited about this as you get an idea of my images here on the internet but to see them in print with your own eyes is a totally different experience.

So please try and make it on the opening night if you can, would be nice to see and chat with you all. Right have to dash ……. I have prints to get ready for this an I’m at the Studio later tonight for another great night of live music.

Should have blogged this shoot ages ago, but been a bit busy the last few weeks. Anyway here it is now.

This was a fashion shoot for Jo at Very Cherry Retro (click here to see her Facebook page). Jo contacted me after supplying clothes for my mad man shoot to shoot her Spring/Summer collection. Again we got the very talented Vicky (Face book page here) from Vicky GlamoRama to do the make up on our fab models Hellcat, Bella and Ian

Jo had sorted out a great location in Liverpool City center  the very fab Aloha Bar.

I love doing fashion shoots and this was no exception with such a great team to work with its wasn’t so much work as pleasure J

“That day down Spikey remembered”

Well what can I say about Saturday night, it was just a great night which brought back so many memories of what I thought on the day in 1990 was just another slightly less than ordinary day down West Bank where I was brought up and still live. Little did I or anyone else who was there that day know that it would become one of the most Iconic days in music history. I wasn’t a massive fan of The Stone Roses at that time but just loved music, any music really and as I lived 5 seconds walk away from  Spike Island (Known to us West Bankers as “Spikey”) I just had to take a walk down there.

I was there but didn’t have a ticket, I was sat on the canal bank as it was a nice day and just listened and got a little high on the smells wafting over the canal !

Anyway over the last year I have been doing a bit of photography at The Studio in Widnes mainly for the “Lewis Edge - Brightest Star” foundation, covering a few gigs and Lewis’s Live room opening. So when I heard that Ian Tilton was going to do a Spike Island special book signing of his book on the Stone Roses “Set In Stone” together with co-author Claire Caldwell, I wanted to be part of it and Ian and the Studio agreed to let me cover the event.

By the way you must take a look at Ian’s photography, some stunning iconic images not just of the Roses but also bands like The Smiths, Iggy pop, Guns and Roses, Nirvana etc etc. His shot of Kurt Cobain crying was voted the 6th best Rock shot ever by Q magazine.

It was a great night, Ian and Claire’s talk was fantastic and they even had a chat to Chris Coghill (Screen Writer for the film “Spike Island, some will know him from “Shameless”) and Nico Mirallegro who plays the lead role in “Spike Island” the film due out very soon . The night was topped off with a great live set from local group The Pearlers covering a few Roses numbers too. And then a load of great tunes with DJ’s Crilly and Johno.

So a big big thanks to “The Studio” (I just love that place) Thanks Louise and Greg  and all the staff there for again allowing me to come and cover such a great night. Also a massive thanks to Ian and Claire,  it was a genuine honour to meet you and your team and having a great chat to you about two of my loves in life Photography and Music. Your book will be one of my very special prized possessions. Special thanks also to my lovely lady Zoe xx

“Mad Men”

Right here’s a shoot I did recently which was so much fun. I was contacted by Vicky of Vick Glamorama Make up who had an Idea for a shoot themed on “Mad Men” I jumped at the chance because I loved the retro feel to what Vicky had in mind.

So both Vicky and I set about looking for Models, Location and stylists to help us get what we wanted from this shoot. Vicky worked hard over the next few weeks looking for a suitable location and came up with Schmooze Bar on the Famous Penny Lane, Liverpool. We also were very lucky to get top vintage stylist Very Cherry Retro for the beautiful dresses our female models got to wear.

We then set about looking for Models, we wanted a typical 60s look for this shoot and the three female and one male models we used were just perfect.  Models we used were  - Danielle , Emma , Charlotte and our male model Jake

Also helping us out with some Jewellery was the wonderful Jessies Jewels . A big thanks also to my assistant for the day Ronnie for all his help with my gear and lighting.

I just want to say here that shoots like these just don’t happen, you can’t just go out with your camera and get great images just like that, It takes teamwork and a lot of hard work behind the scenes to get great shots, so a big big thanks to everyone involved in this shoot, I for one really think it worked.

For the camera and gear geeks out there I used a Nikon D3s and mainly my Nikkor 24-70 f2.8. Lighting on some of the shots were just available light and on others using a Lencarta Safari 600w flash head and modifiers.

Models  ~ Jake , Emma , Danielle , Charlotte

Styling ~ Very Cherry Retro , Jessies Jewels

“Day of the Zombies”

Hiya all I’m still here ! been so busy this last few months I haven’t had time to do a blog so Im planning on putting that right in the next few days by doing a couple of short blogs.

Going to start with this fun shoot I did at Ccm Studios, Birkenhead. This is a great little studio run and owned By Nick one of the nicest photographers you could meet. I plan to do more shoots there when I can, Oh and also Nick, Myself and three other local photographers have got together for a project which may blow your socks off, but more of that later (still in the planning stage as yet).

Anyway Nick asked me if I was interested in doing a Zombie shoot with the make up done by the fantastic Amanda Hall, MUA . I haven’t really done anything like this before so jumped at the chance.

The models we used were Phoenix  , Katy and Klaire .

Heres a few images and a big big thanks to Nick at Ccm Studios, Birkenhead, Amanda for another great make up job and Phoenix, Kate and Klaire for getting into the action like the true professionals they are.

Next blog will be my “Mad Man” Shoot …………. Coming soon !
